Lost or Broken Invisalign Aligner

What to do when a tray is missing or damaged and why treatment stage matters.

Protect the sequence

Do not throw away the previous tray when moving to a new one. It can provide a temporary fallback if the active aligner is lost.

The correct next step depends on timing

If a tray is lost near the end of its wear period, advice may differ from losing it on the first day. The provider needs to know the tray number and how long it was worn.

Do not automatically skip forward

The next tray may place forces on teeth that have not reached the required position. Advancing without advice can create fit problems.

Replacement policies vary

Ask before treatment how replacement trays are ordered, how long they take and whether there is an additional fee.

Questions to take to a consultation

  • What is the diagnosis and treatment objective?
  • Who will personally diagnose, plan and supervise treatment?
  • What reasonable alternatives exist?
  • What is included in the total fee, including refinements and retainers?
  • How often are in-person visits expected?
