Where to Start

A practical path from noticing a concern to arranging a useful orthodontic consultation.

Start with the problem you notice

Write down what prompted the search: crowding, spacing, bite, relapse, a child’s development, a missing retainer or interest in a less visible treatment option.

Choose the type of consultation

If the concern appears complex or you specifically want specialist care, look for a certified orthodontist. If you are considering aligners through a general dental office, verify that provider’s scope and referral process.

Take comparable questions to each visit

Ask about diagnosis, alternatives, duration, total fee, included services, refinements and retention. Using the same questions makes different recommendations easier to understand.

Do not rush because of a promotion

Orthodontic treatment lasts months or years. A limited-time discount should not outweigh confidence in the diagnosis, provider and long-term plan.
