Understanding an Invisalign Treatment Plan

How to interpret a digital simulation without confusing an animation with a guaranteed result.

The animation is a plan, not a prediction guarantee

A digital setup shows intended tooth positions. Real teeth move through living bone and may respond differently from the computer sequence.

Look at the bite, not just the front teeth

A dramatic straightening animation can be visually persuasive, but patients should also ask what is happening to overbite, overjet, arch coordination and back-tooth contacts.

Attachments and IPR should make sense in context

If these are prescribed, ask what movement or space requirement each is supporting. The explanation should connect the procedure to a treatment objective.

The plan should have checkpoints

Ask how the provider determines whether teeth are tracking and what criteria trigger a rescan, refinement or change in strategy.

Questions to take to a consultation

  • What is the diagnosis and treatment objective?
  • Who will personally diagnose, plan and supervise treatment?
  • What reasonable alternatives exist?
  • What is included in the total fee, including refinements and retainers?
  • How often are in-person visits expected?
