Act before visible relapse becomes larger

Teeth can begin moving when retention stops. Contact a dental or orthodontic office promptly rather than waiting until the change is obvious.

Do not force a badly fitting retainer

A retainer that will not seat may reflect tooth movement or appliance distortion. Forcing it can cause discomfort or damage.

Bring the broken appliance

Even a cracked or distorted retainer can provide useful information about its design and previous fit.

Replacement may require new records

If no usable digital scan or model exists, the office may need a new scan or impression before fabricating a replacement.
