Eating and Drinking With Invisalign

How meals, drinks and snacking interact with wear time, hygiene and tray staining.

Remove aligners for meals unless specifically instructed otherwise

Chewing with standard aligners can damage or distort them. Follow the treating office’s instructions if a different protocol is recommended.

Water is the simplest drink with trays in

Sugary, acidic or strongly coloured drinks can create staining and may trap liquid against the teeth. Removing trays for those drinks is generally the safer routine.

Frequent snacking has a wear-time cost

Every snack requires another removal and reinsertion cycle. Patients who graze throughout the day may find it harder to reach the prescribed wear time.

Hygiene after meals can be practical, not perfect

When full brushing is not possible, rinsing the mouth and trays can be better than trapping obvious food debris. Resume normal brushing and flossing as soon as practical.
