Digital Scans for Invisalign

What intraoral scanning contributes to records, fit, planning and communication.

A scan captures surface shape

An intraoral scanner creates a detailed digital model of visible tooth and gum surfaces. It does not replace every other diagnostic record that may be needed.

Good records support communication

Digital models can help patients understand crowding, spacing and planned changes because the dentition can be viewed from multiple angles.

Scanning does not make treatment automatic

The existence of a digital model does not determine diagnosis or treatment goals. Clinical judgment still controls what should be moved and why.

Digital files can help later

Depending on office policy and platform, scans may also support retainers, replacements or comparison over time. Ask what records are retained and for how long.

Questions to take to a consultation

  • What is the diagnosis and treatment objective?
  • Who will personally diagnose, plan and supervise treatment?
  • What reasonable alternatives exist?
  • What is included in the total fee, including refinements and retainers?
  • How often are in-person visits expected?
